Dual Credit Information

Beginning in the 2009 – 2010 school year, eligible students may enroll in Dual Credit courses through TXVSN. TxVSN Dual Credit Pilot was developed to meet TxVSN’s expanded priorities of:

• Courses that would likely benefit a student in obtaining admission to a post secondary institution;
• Courses, including dual credit courses, that allow a student to earn college credit or other advanced credit

School Districts should review the information on this page before registering students in Dual Credit courses.

Student Eligibility

The maximum number of courses (high school or dual credit) a student may take via the TxVSN per semester is two. It is our understanding that the Higher Education Coordinating Board limits the number of dual credit course a student can take to 2 per semester. Please note that the TxVSN is targeting junior and senior students on the DAP as the priority for enrollment in dual credit courses via the TxVSN. See http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/index.cfm?objectid=6363B260-FBB8-C8E6-1AEEDA05F8ACE4A4 for THECB FAQ page concerning dual credit courses.

Registration of Students with TxVSN

1. TxVSN District or Open Enrollment Charter School Registration Process

All districts must complete the TxVSN District or Open Enrollment Charter School registration process before a student can be enrolled in a TxVSN high school or dual credit course. Please review the Steps to TxVSN Participation, and how to begin the registration process.

It is suggested that the district complete the TxVSN registration process first and then proceed to the participating college or university to complete the enrollment process.

2. TxVSN Enrollment

Site Coordinators are responsible for enrolling students in TxVSN courses through the TxVSN student enrollment system.

3. College or University Enrollment

The district or open enrollment charter school must ensure the student’s eligibility for dual credit, have an articulation agreement with the college or university, and facilitate application to and enrollment with the college or university.

If you are unsure as to the service area of your district or campus, please click here http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/apps/GM/ to view information concerning service areas for Texas community colleges.

TxVSN Providers of Dual Credit each have their own student enrollment/registration process. Please visit the information pages of each college to ensure that all steps are followed in the college or university’s process.
